Sabayon 4 & future Entropy
So, just a quick note about Sabayon 4; I am currently preparing the rsync mirror service, tomorrow I’ll start writing the Press Release and get ready for it
Sabayon 4 will be a well-tested rolling release, this means you can expect a 4.1 at the beginning of February, as I said some time ago, we’ll start releasing faster, quite easy now that Entropy is mostly in place and working quite well. Hopefully, 4.1 will containt KDE 4.2 and for sure, the amazing 2.6.28 Linux kernel. We don’t plan to create a “4.1″ branch but using “4″ instead for at least 3 rolling releases (so till 4.3, scheduled at the end of Spring 2009).
In Sabayon 4 you can expect improved boot speed, improved Entropy, hardware detection, lots and lots of package updates, i686 CHOST for our 32bit version, X.Org 7.4, KDE 4.1.3, KDE 3.5.10, XFCE 4.4, GNOME 2.24.2, LXDE and a stunning new theme, thanks to our Artwork Team.
Also, it’s very probable that Sabayon 4.1 will be shipped in two forms, Sabayon and Sabayon Lite (DVD version with just one Desktop Environment and only selected applications).
About the next Entropy release, 0.25, a non casual number, it will mean 25% more speed (as well as some nice new features). You can feel it already, changes are on our Entropy SVN* trunk. From my tests, Entropy 0.24 on the same package set took 6:30m while Entropy 0.25 is taking 4:30m. Nice huh?
More tomorrow on our forum
downloading right now sabayon v4.0 … for v4.0 to v.4.1 upgrade will use the entropy upgrade path … very curious about how well will be that upgrade …
